He actually started as an exporter, working to export and sell coffees grown by his family. Then, Ethiopia changed its laws to allow exporters to produce coffee in addition to just trading it. He took this opportunity to begin farming coffee himself and built a washing station, called Buku Abel, in 2019. Coffee for this natural lot is sourced from 20 different farmers located near Buku Abel. The cherries are dried for 12-14 days; they are spread on African beds within 24 hours of being harvested. To prevent the cherries from drying out too fast, the drying beds are only opened for a few hours in the morning and again in the evening. This extended drying time allows the beans to absorb much more flavor from the fruit. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a very fruit-forward coffee. On the cupping table, we're tasting notes of Peach, Meyer Lemon, and Red Grape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eRoaster's Notes: \u003c\/strong\u003eI've had a few coffees from Buku Abel roasted by other roasters in the past, and they've always stuck out to me for their intense fruitiness and bright acidity. When I met Firaol from Moii Coffee (our sourcing partner for this coffee) in November, I was thrilled to hear that this was one of the coffees he imported.
